Dear Family & Friends,

 

As many of you know our son Morgan was diagnosed with Autism last year. We were devastated by the news but with a lot of help and support we've made it thru our first year. We've learned a lot about Early Intervention, Department of Health Services, Department of Education services, IEP's, ABA treatments, sensory diets, gluten free/casein free diets, physical therapy, speech therapy, skills trainers, hypobaric treatments, and PEC's, its been a lot to learn and digest and we are so appreciative of all the wonderful people we've met along the way who have shared their knowledge with us. One thing that we learned very early in our journey is that most of the standard Autism treatments are not covered by medical insurance so most families are limited to just the services are provided for by DOH or DOE. It's a sad but true fact that people with greater financial needs are able to afford better autism treatments for their children. Our local autism support group, TACA (Talk About Curing Autism) is working hard with the legislators to have our laws changed to force insurance companies to provide to us the same kind of coverage for therapies as someone who has had a stroke but for now families just have to shoulder these costs. 

Our wonderful neighbor, June Tong, decided she wanted to do something to help and generously offered to republish her popular cookbook to raise funds for Morgan's autism treatments. June's cookbook titled POPO'S KITCHEN previously sold over 45,000 copies. June has taught Chinese cooking classes at Kaimuki High School Adult Education and still holds an occasional class at her home by special request. Although this cookbook was originally published over 20 years ago she is still asked where someone could purchase a copy.  This cookbook has 200 delicious, generations tested, easy to follow recipes. (Jordon and I can attest to the easy part!)
